Film Club Distribuzione has secured the rights for Irene Dionisio’s IDDA, a drama set against the backdrop of Mount Etna, following its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival as part of the Platform program.
The agreement with Rai Cinema International Distribution covers Dionisio’s second narrative feature, which features Tecla Insolia and Romana Maggiora Vergano. The film is being promoted at TIFF: The Market in Toronto. IDDA tells the story of childhood friends Adele and Sofia, now in their thirties, whose deep bond is tested during a trip through Sicily’s volcanic landscapes around Mount Etna.
Andrea Curti, CEO and head of acquisitions at Film Club Distribuzione, part of Minerva Pictures, stated on Sunday: “We’re extremely proud to have the chance to bring one of the most awaited titles of the season to the Italian audience. IDDA is first and foremost an amazing journey with wonderful people: Irene Dionisio, Giovanni Pompili and the whole production team, and the amazing cast with three of the most talented voices of our contemporary cinema.”
Dionisio transitioned from documentaries to narrative films with Pawn Street, which premiered at Venice in 2017. She co-wrote IDDA alongside Marco Borromei (Small Body).

The distribution deal was negotiated by Fulvio Firrito for Rai Cinema International Distribution, which is handling international sales on the film, along with Andrea Curti for Film Club Distribuzione. IDDA is produced by Giovanni Pompili, Isabella Weber, Filippo Montalto, Francesco Montalto, Francesco Grisi, Giorgia Priolo and Antonio Miyakawa.
