Mike Bradley is ready to make a comeback.

Ontario’s longest-serving mayor shared on Friday, the last day to submit nominations for this fall’s municipal election, that he will be running for another term in Sarnia.

Bradley mentioned that he has been hearing from residents over the past few months who have encouraged him to run again.

“Today, I registered as a candidate for mayor of the City of Sarnia, a city I deeply love and have devoted my life to,” Bradley said in a statement Friday.

Having served as Sarnia’s mayor since 1988, he emphasizes his “Bradley Basics”: keeping taxes low and maintaining no debt, allowing more funds for infrastructure. He also highlighted his role as an advocate for Sarnia-Lambton as eastern Canada’s energy center by working to protect Enbridge Line 5 and the thousands of jobs associated with it.

“This election is about the future of Sarnia and what sort of leadership will take us forward in a way that we all will be proud of as citizens of Sarnia,” Bradley said.

Bill Dennis, Scott Molson, Carrie Mc Eachran and George Stanko have also put their names forward to run for mayor, according to the city’s list of unofficial candidates. Chrissy Mc Roberts had filed on May 1 but withdrew Thursday and is now seeking a position as a city/county councillor, based on information from the city’s website. She is among 17 candidates vying for those positions.

A total of 22 individuals are competing for city councillor roles.

The municipal election is set for Oct. 26.

Burgess Announces Mayoral Run in Point Edward

In Point Edward, three-term councillor Paul Burgess has declared his candidacy for mayor.

“I understand what the village needs to stay progressively independent for decades ahead: listening to taxpayers, supporting staff, keeping taxes low and preserving the lifestyle that comes with being part of this great community,” he stated.

Greg Grimes is also running for mayor according to the village’s unofficial list. Current Mayor Bev Hand was not listed as of Friday.

Twelve individuals are looking to become councillors.
