(Aidan Frederick) At just 27 years old, Aidan Frederick stands out as the youngest candidate in this year’s mayoral race. A native of St. Thomas, he studied software engineering at Western University before transitioning into technology and then accounting roles. Frederick believes his experience working on municipal audits gives him insight into local finances and operations. He’s running because he’s excited about what lies ahead for St. Thomas. “We’re at this turning point almost with the growth of our city,” he said. “I think we need some new faces in City Hall, some new ideas.” His main priorities over the next four years include increasing housing availability and enhancing transportation options. Regarding transportation, Frederick emphasizes that it’s important to look at how people move around within St. Thomas and travel to nearby communities. He also sees his youth as an advantage in this campaign. “I think being a younger person running for this position is helping the younger folks realize that our problems matter,” he said. “The things we’re facing do matter and that we can make a change.”Jeff Kohler
Kohler points out his experience with local politics along with his involvement in decisions that helped shape today’s city along with established relationships with city staff.
“The city’s strategic plans would continue under my leadership instead of just going on a shelf to gather dust,” he added.
This includes efforts aimed at eliminating homelessness by 2027.
“We’re one of only a few municipalities that’s actually managed to reduce it.. we’re proud of that effort, hoping we’ll reach our goal moving forward.”
