No one was injured, but the damage is significant after a house fire in Kitchener over the long weekend. Police have since charged someone with arson.
Kitchener Fire crews arrived at a townhome on Courtland Avenue East Sunday morning around 6:30 a. m.
Two units were affected by the blaze, with initial estimates suggesting damages around $200,000.
Officials stated that no one was hurt since the units were unoccupied.
“There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters,” said city officials.
“At this time, there are no concerns regarding structural damage to the building.”
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) later confirmed that they found a suspect while responding officers evacuated nearby units at the scene.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with arson following an investigation.
