York Regional Police (YRP) have arrested a 30‑year‑old man in connection with two reported sexual assaults involving youth victims that took place just two days apart along trails in Richmond Hill.
According to investigators, the first incident occurred on Aug. 12 at around 3:15 p. m. A youth was walking near Hwy. 7 and Bayview Avenue when an unknown man approached her.
Police say the suspect grabbed the victim, tried to cover her mouth, and touched her inappropriately. The victim was able to break free and escape.
Two days later, on Aug. 14 at approximately 11:30 a. m., a second youth victim was walking along a nearby trail when she encountered a man who covered her mouth and touched her for sexual reasons. She also managed to get away and sought help.

30-Year-Old Facing Multiple Charges
Soon after the second incident, officers found a suspect in the Bathurst Street and Hwy. 7 area and took him into custody. Jan‑Hoy Cassells, 30, of no fixed address, has been charged with sexual interference, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, and obstructing justice. Investigators have shared a photo of the accused as they believe there may be more victims out there.
