Five individuals are competing to become the next Mayor of St. Catharines.
The current Mayor, Mat Siscoe, is seeking re-election after being first elected in 2022.
He has a history of serving as both a city and regional councillor, having started his tenure on city council in 2010.
This year’s municipal election in Niagara will be unique due to several changes made by the Ford government, including reducing council sizes and removing elections for Regional Councillors.
The twelve mayors elected on October 26th will represent their municipalities at Regional Council, alongside an appointed (by the Ford government) Chair who is yet to be named.
Mayoral candidate Anthony Adeoye aims to take Siscoe’s place, stating he wants to create a safer, stronger, and more prosperous St. Catharines through accountable leadership, economic development, affordable housing solutions, improved public services, and enhanced community partnerships.
Ann-Marie Zammit is the only woman running for mayor. She believes that the current council hasn’t taken significant action regarding the old GM site and insists it’s time for change. Her platform includes transforming surplus properties into affordably priced public housing, backing the Welcoming Streets program, and providing free two-hour parking downtown.
Jimmy Jackson, who previously ran as the New Blue Party of Ontario candidate for Niagara Centre in the 2025 provincial election, says he’s running because St. Catharines needs leaders who show up, speak honestly, and prioritize residents’ needs. He believes every person in the city deserves a genuine voice in shaping what comes next.
Henry Bosch is also vying for Mayor of St. Catharines.
