Provincial police have pressed four charges against a young person in eastern Ontario’s Lennox and Addington County, linking them to the death of another youth following a “medical emergency” at a school in March.

The individual, whose identity remains confidential under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing charges that include criminal harassment, offering indignity to a dead body, and two counts of indecent communication, according to police on Friday morning.

The date and place of the incident mentioned by authorities correspond with the passing of a Grade 8 student near Kingston in March.

This student experienced their emergency at Bath Public School on March 9 and passed away within a week. The school’s advisory council stated

The student’s name has not been disclosed by either police or the school board.

The Limestone District School Board shared on Friday that it continues to grieve the loss and will conduct its own investigation and review.

“Student safety and wellbeing remain our highest priority,” it said.

“We take all concerns related to bullying, conflict and safety seriously. We are committed to maintaining safe, supportive and respectful learning environments across all schools.”

Police noted that the investigation is ongoing and includes involvement from the chief coroner’s office. That office declined further comment on Friday.
