Students from Springwater, Clearview, and Wasaga Beach participated in the Shop with a Cop event

NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
On Sunday, December 7, 2025, members of the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Wasaga Beach fire department and local law enforcement officials, had the honor of teaming up with students from nearby schools for our annual Shop with a Cop event at Canadian Tire in Wasaga Beach.

The Shop with a Cop event aims to give elementary and high school kids and their families a fun-filled shopping experience while providing gifts. Each school in Wasaga Beach, Springwater Township, and Clearview Township was invited to choose two students to take part.

Each student got to spend time shopping alongside an OPP officer, firefighter, or bylaw officer. They picked out gifts for their families, pets, and even something special just for themselves. Every student received a specific amount of money thanks to generous donations from local businesses, community clubs, and private sponsors.

The Huronia West detachment is thankful for receiving support through the Tim Hortons Holiday Smile Cookie campaign. A big thank-you goes out to everyone who bought a Smile Cookie in Wasaga Beach and helped this cause. Another special thanks goes to Canadian Tire Wasaga Beach and their amazing staff for hosting the shopping portion of this event and generously matching all funds raised for the students’ shopping budget-making it an even more enjoyable experience.

After they finished shopping, the students hopped on a bus to Station 1 fire hall in Wasaga Beach where they celebrated together. The firefighters prepared a delicious breakfast while everyone enjoyed various holiday activities such as photos with Santa Claus, face painting, making Christmas cards for their loved ones, decorating trees, baking cookies, and creating ornaments. While everyone had fun during this lively event, volunteers worked behind the scenes wrapping gifts so that everything was ready for students to take home.

The Huronia West OPP would like to express heartfelt thanks to all volunteers as well as these businesses, clubs, and individuals who contributed to making this event successful-a day these students will always remember:

We can’t wait for next year’s Shop with a Cop event! Wishing everyone happy holidays filled with joy.
