A fifth man has been taken into custody in connection with a deadly shooting that happened in Bolton, Ont., back in 2021, along with two attempted murder cases in the Greater Toronto Area, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The attempted murders trace back to 2020. Police report that two other suspects involved in the homicide and attempted murders are still on the run.

Damion Ryan, who is 45 years old and from Ottawa, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder, as stated in a news release from police on Wednesday.

Ryan is currently incarcerated and is scheduled for a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on April 13.

The OPP has stated that all three men were part of an attempted murder case from 2020 as well as a shooting incident from 2021. The latter resulted in the death of 65-year-old Giovanni Costa while leaving one person injured from the earlier incident.

The first event occurred on November 12, 2020, when York Regional Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business located on Steeles Avenue West in Vaughan, Ont. One individual was hurt and subsequently taken to hospital.

The second incident took place on January 18, 2021, when OPP officers were called out to another shooting at a residence on Harvest Moon Drive in Bolton, Ont. One resident there was identified as the victim from the Vaughan shooting. Unfortunately, Costa was found dead at that location, according to police reports.

An Ontario-wide warrant has been issued for Filmon Fesshaghirgis, aged 27 from London. He faces charges including first-degree murder along with two counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities say he often frequents London and areas within the GTA.

A Canada-wide warrant remains active for Waheed Barakziye, who is 48 years old also from London. He has been charged similarly with first-degree murder alongside two counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Authorities have advised that members of the public should not attempt to approach these wanted individuals but instead contact law enforcement immediately if they see them.

The Caledon OPP continues its investigation under guidance from OPP’s criminal investigation branch.

The Ontario government has announced a $50,000 reward for any information leading directly to the arrest and conviction related to Costa’s death.
