The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking into a suspicious death that occurred in Perth on Sunday.
Officers arrived at Last Duel Park around 3:15 p. m. where they discovered an individual with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the police.
The injured person was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead, OPP reported.
Police have not yet revealed the identity of the victim or made any arrests or filed charges.
They noted that initial findings suggest there’s no broader danger to the public, but residents in the area should expect an increased police presence as the investigation proceeds.
Jesse Barber, who lives nearby and frequently visits the park with his family, mentioned that this incident has left him and his neighbors with many questions.
“I think that’s the hardest part. You see a lot of the social media speculation and rumours going around,” he said. “If you don’t know the circumstances, if it was something that was random, that’s what’s scary because is it wrong place, wrong time?”
Barber described his neighborhood as “family-friendly,” but also recalled a homicide that took place in 2016 at the same park.

The Town of Perth is urging residents to steer clear of Last Duel Park for now, and some roads remain closed as police conduct their investigation.
“They have to contain the area of Last Duel Park in order to do the investigation,” said Perth Mayor Judy Brown. “Our works crew is helping them maintain the barricade and redirect people.”
Brown referred to this suspicious death as an “isolated” incident in what she considers an otherwise safe town.
OPP states they will provide more information as it becomes available.
