Ontario has plenty of getaway spots, from lively cities like Toronto to popular areas such as Muskoka. If you’re in search of a quieter, lesser-known place to visit this summer, you might want to consider this charming lakeside town.

With stunning beaches, sun-soaked patios, and a peaceful vibe, it’s an ideal location to relax and enjoy the summer weather.

Port Elgin is a delightful village situated on the glistening shores of Lake Huron.

Just under three hours from Toronto, it’s a great place to take in lake views and soak up the summer atmosphere.

According to the website, it’s “one of Ontario’s best kept vacation secrets,” featuring a cozy downtown and stunning scenery.

A major attraction is its six beautiful white-sand beaches and lovely harbour that will make you feel like you’re on a distant coastal retreat.

The Main Beach stretches along a sunny shoreline with sparkling waves and soft sand.

Gobles Grove offers “peace and quiet and less activity,” with gentle, shallow waters perfect for a soothing swim.

Other beaches worth visiting include Eidts Grove Beach, Shipley Beach, and Miramichi Bay.

Don’t forget your comfortable shoes! Port Elgin is known as “Ontario’s hiking heaven” with various hiking and biking trails available.

You can also check out nearby Mac Gregor Point Provincial Park for more scenic trails and an off-the-beaten-path beach.

Make sure you stay late enough to enjoy the vibrant sunsets that are “some of the most spectacular sunsets in all of Ontario.”

In downtown Port Elgin, you’ll discover quaint local shops, restaurants with sunny patios, ice cream spots, and much more.

With its beachy charm and lovely sandy shores, Port Elgin truly is a summer treasure right here in Ontario.
