With great sadness, we share the unexpected passing of Giulio Di Stefano on April 13, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born in Basciano, Italy, on July 11, 1950. Giulio moved to Canada with his parents Bernardo and Antonietta Di Stefano and his younger brother Mario in 1960. The family later welcomed another son and brother, Oswaldo (Ozzie) Di Stefano. They always cherished their Italian heritage and culture at home while keeping strong connections with family and friends back in Italy.

Giulio had a natural entrepreneurial spirit that started when he sold newspapers as a child. He worked at Bombardier for many years. As an enthusiastic sportsman, he enjoyed sharing hunting and fishing stories with friends and anyone else who would listen. He made his home in Lappe where he lived for 47 years. His happiest times were spent enjoying nature, nurturing his beautiful gardens, or relaxing on the front porch with his loyal dogs by his side. Known for growing exceptional tomatoes and beautiful flower beds, he generously shared the produce with friends. Always looking for new opportunities, he also sold perennials every spring. Giulio kept himself informed about world events, geography, and politics and loved engaging in lively discussions about different viewpoints. His friends, family, and pets added so much joy to his life; he’s thankful for all their contributions.

Giulio is survived by his brother Ozzie Di Stefano (Lyn), sister-in-law Cherie Di Stefano, nephew Justin Di Stefano, along with numerous relatives and close friends both in Canada and Italy.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date which will be announced soon. In line with Giulio’s wishes, interment will occur in Italy during the fall of 2026. If desired, donations can be made to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society instead of sending flowers.

We’ll all miss seeing him drive into town with just his head visible over the steering wheel while wearing that iconic fur hat most of the year.
