Halton police are looking into a deadly shooting at the Burlington Centre mall after gunfire erupted on Monday night.

The event took place in the parking lot of 777 Guelph Line just after 10 p. m., according to law enforcement.

Authorities report that the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Investigators have named the victim as Omer Niaz Muhammad, 24, from Burlington.

Police are currently searching for two suspects who escaped in a white SUV.

“Investigators believe this was a targeted incident with no known risk to public safety,” Halton police stated in a release on Tuesday morning.

This marks Halton Region’s first homicide of the year.
