Expect heavy rain, strong winds, and possible “quarter size hail” Thursday afternoon in the Waterloo region, Guelph, and surrounding areas, according to Environment Canada.
The weather agency has put out a yellow severe thunderstorm watch for these regions, indicating that winds could reach gusts of up to 90 km/h later in the day.
Intense rainfall may also lead to reduced visibility and flash flooding in certain locations.
“Local utility outages are possible,” Environment Canada stated in a release. “Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. There is a risk of injury.”
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are “favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.”
