March 30, 1963 – July 4, 2026

It is with great sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of Colin Blakemore at the age of 63.

Colin was born in England to his parents the late Peter and late Irene Blakemore, moving to Canada when he was just 3 years old.

He was a devoted partner to Shelia Johnston and was predeceased by his wife, Elise.

Colin took pride in being a loving grandfather to Brayden, Carly, Caitlyn, and Lauren. He also played an important fatherly role for Shauna (Jeff) and Sandy (Craig).

He was preceded in death by his sister Cynthia and nephew Jason. He leaves behind his caring sister Glenys Blakemore (David), along with his uncles John and David Blakemore. His nephews and nieces Ranae Haynes (Russell), Shane Blakemore, Kyele, Chantal, and Shawn Haynes will also remember him fondly.

Colin attended Silverthorn Collegiate Institute before furthering his education at the University of Toronto. His impressive career with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources ended with him retiring as Manager of the Forestry Planning Unit.

Throughout his work life, Colin gained respect for his commitment to forestry, conservation, and caring for the environment. He made meaningful contributions to forestry policy, natural resource management, and wildlife education programs throughout Ontario. His knowledge is evident in several professional publications like Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Options for Ontario’s Claybelt among others. His impact will benefit future generations.

Apart from his professional achievements, Colin was known for his gentle kindness, thoughtful demeanor, and love of animals. He has now been reunited with many beloved dogs that enriched his life while leaving behind his dear cat Smokey.

People will remember Colin for his intelligence, integrity, and steadfast dedication to what he loved doing most. His wisdom, warmth, and subtle sense of humor will be missed deeply by everyone who knew him.

In honor of Colin’s love for animals, memorial donations can be made in his name to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society. Donations can be made by cheque or online directly to the charity.

Visit www. osullivanfuneralhome. com to leave messages of condolence for the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St., Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 1P7; phone: 705-759-8456).
