The province is raising the speed limit again on parts of Highway 402.
Starting July 31, 2026, the speed limit will be set at 110 kilometres an hour from Waterworks Road to 350 metres east of Colborne Road in Sarnia, and on a brief section between Highway 401 and White Oak Road in London.
In 2022, the Ford government increased the speed limit along the 402 from Waterworks Road to London to 110 km/h after a pilot project took place in 2019.
Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria stated in a news release that the government is assisting drivers in reaching their destinations more quickly and safely.
“We’re going to keep supporting commuters, workers and businesses by investing in our $31 billion plan to build and expand roads and highways, so we can get people and goods moving across Ontario and keep workers on the job,” Sarkaria said.
Other roadways that will see an increase in speed limits between now and the end of September include the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) as well as sections of Highways 400, 401, 403, 416, and 417.
Once implemented, nearly 89 percent of Ontario’s highway network will have a posted speed limit of 110 km/h, up from just 43 percent.
The province mentioned that with this new speed limit, drivers traveling from Sarnia to Toronto could save almost 20 minutes.
