The upcoming curling event called “The Battle” at the Plex in Port Elgin is gearing up to showcase a lineup of well-known athletes from the curling community.
All weekend passes are sold out, but organizers have made sure that everyone can catch the action live on the Rock Channel, CBC Gem, CBCSports. ca, and the CBC Youtube channel.
Attendees should note that the event will be cashless, with credit and debit machines available on-site. The curling camp filled up quickly with 80 curlers of various skill levels. Some of the most recognized names in the sport will be teaching at the camp.
Glenn Howard – Four World Championships. Four Briers. Seventeen Ontario Tankards.
Sherry Middaugh – Five Ontario Scotties. One Saskatchewan Title. Currently coaching Team Hollie Duncan.
Lori Eddy – Four Scotties appearances. Competed in 2013 Olympic Trials in Winnipeg. Coached Team Armstrong to an Ontario Scotties Championship.
Mick Lizmore – Head coach of the Canadian National Wheelchair Curling program, winning gold this past year in Italy. Has curled alongside Scott Mac Donald and Brendan Botcher.
Kate Hagen – Competed alongside Sherry Middaugh and Colleen Jones. Worked at curling camps throughout Canada and Europe.
Maurice Wilson – Coached in 30 provincial championships. Master Coach Developer for Curling Canada. Asham Ontario Junior Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004. Canadian University Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012.
This three-day event will feature teams that represented Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy, including bronze medalists Team Rachel Homan and gold medalists Team Brad Jacobs. On Friday evening, September 25, there will be doubles curling. Saturday evening, September 26 is set for a skins game while Sunday afternoon’s final on September 27 will showcase regular curling matches. A special appearance by the Canadian Paralympic Gold Medal Wheelchair Curling Team is also planned for Friday evening.
