Data Security Incident at Whitby Spa Affects Customers

A spa based in Quebec, which has a location in Whitby, Ont., has reported that a data breach may have affected customers who purchased gift certificates.

The business, Groupe Nordik, operates Thermëa spa village on Cochrane Street in Whitby.

In a statement to , Groupe Nordik mentioned that it had contacted all customers who might be impacted by the data breach.

“It is unfortunate that data breaches are so commonplace today,” the statement read.

“Groupe Nordik became aware of suspicious activity on our gift certificate system in late February and immediately shut down the system to investigate with a best-in-class third-party cyber security firm.”

The company stated it has improved security measures since the incident occurred.

At the end of 2022, there was another issue when multiple guests at Whitby’s Thermëa spa village filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming they suffered health problems after visiting the facility where staph bacteria was found in a saltwater pool.
