London’s city council welcomed four new members on Monday: a former poet laureate, a previous reporter, a 32-year-old videographer, and an “intelligence analyst/investigator.” While most incumbents secured their positions with ease, Peter Cuddy faced defeat in Ward 3 and Anna Hopkins had a tough battle in Ward 9.
Ward 1: Hadleigh Mc Alister tops Roger Caranci
Roger Caranci, who previously served on the council from 2000 to 2010 and ran for mayor in 2014, aimed to make a comeback but fell short on Monday night.
He tried to unseat Hadleigh Mc Alister in east-end Ward 1. However, Mc Alister, at age 35, successfully countered Caranci’s campaign that mirrored mayoral runner-up Susan Stevenson’s emphasis on public safety and transparency within city hall.
