A stabbing investigation in St. James Town took a tragic turn on Friday when the suspect, trying to escape, fell and died, according to Toronto police.

Officers arrived at a residential building close to Sherbourne Street and St. James Avenue just before 11 a. m., following reports of a stabbing inside.

The police found a victim with stab wounds and began administering aid. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious but stable injuries.

While officers were helping the injured person, they received word that the suspect was attempting to flee the scene. Moments later, police informed City News that the suspect had been involved in an “accident” and was pronounced dead at the scene after falling.

No further details were available immediately.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which looks into incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury, or firearm discharge at individuals, has been notified, as confirmed by City News.

The investigation is currently active and ongoing.
