Authorities in Toronto and York Region are seeking assistance from the public to identify a young suspect involved in two synagogue shootings that took place in March.

Officials report they have secured a court order to release images of the suspect since he is believed to be a minor, and these photos will be taken down on Monday.

Toronto police discovered bullet holes in the doors of the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue after responding to reports of gunfire shortly after midnight on March 7.

Earlier that same evening, York Region police responded to shots fired at the Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue located in Vaughan, Ont.

In both incidents, while there was property damage, no injuries were reported.

The shootings occurred less than a week after another synagogue experienced gunfire in Toronto’s north end.

The shootings prompted widespread outrage, leading police to increase patrols around Jewish communities and places of worship as a precautionary measure.

This report by The Canadian Press was first May 1, 2026.
