Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia may experience severe thunderstorms with strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch for all these areas.

Residents might see hail stones as big as four centimetres, rainfall reaching up to 30 millimetres, and wind gusts hitting 90 km/h, according to the weather office.

“Local utility outages are possible,” the notice read.

“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. When thunder roars, go indoors!”

Every year, lightning causes injuries and fatalities among Canadians, according to the weather office.

Emergency Management Ontario advises that people should seek shelter right away if bad weather approaches.

The weather office issues severe thunderstorm watches when conditions are right for storms that could produce damaging hail, winds or rain.
