Tecumseh is set to receive provincial gas tax funds aimed at enhancing transit access.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced on Friday that the Town will get $176,470 to help support Tecumseh Transit. This amount comes from Ontario’s 2025-26 Gas Tax program.

“This support will enhance connectivity, improve access to essential local services, and make it easier for residents to travel safely and efficiently throughout Tecumseh’s borders and beyond,” said Dowie.

Mayor Gary Mc Namara stated that this funding is perfect as residents deal with rising gas prices.

“This funding will be well spent on keeping our transit system operating effectively, which includes improving and maintaining the Town’s electric bus fleet to ensure Tecumseh residents have eco-friendly, accessible, and reliable transportation well into the future,” said Mc Namara. “These investments further the Town’s goals of reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable energy sources.”

The Town added three electric buses to its fleet in June 2025, replacing the noisier and more expensive diesel-powered ones.

Tecumseh is among 107 municipalities across Ontario receiving funds through the Gas Tax program.
