People living in southwestern and midwestern Ontario might experience a surprise this weekend.

Environment Canada is predicting a cold front to move through the area, with a slight chance of flurries on Sunday evening, possibly lasting into Monday.

“We’re not expecting much accumulation in particular, because the ground has already been so warm,” said Steven Flisfeder, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada. “Anything that does fall is likely to melt. You probably wouldn’t even have to shovel anything; it’s most likely to just remain on the grass or the trees.”

Since we are in mid-April, it seems unlikely we’ll see more snowfall after this one, but Flisfeder isn’t making any promises.

“It’s not impossible that it will happen again, but as of now we’re not seeing any more chances beyond the weekend,” he declared.

When asked if April snow is common for southwestern Ontario, Flisfeder noted that it happens every now and then.

“It’s definitely something that has occurred. It’s definitely not something that you think of, especially when you’re seeing temperatures around that 15-20 degree range,” he finished.

The flurries shouldn’t be a concern for long, as the region is expected to return to double-digit temperatures on Tuesday.
