With heavy hearts, we share the news of Garry Penrose Hope’s passing. He left us peacefully at Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Garry was born on July 17, 1945, and had a passion for sports from a young age, shining in both football and track during his high school years. He started his career with CIBC in Newmarket, Ontario, where he was highly regarded as an employee. A highlight of his journey included a memorable year working at the bank in the Bahamas. Later on, he took on the role of auditor for the Attorney General in Ontario, which gave him opportunities to travel extensively and build many lasting friendships.
Garry held faith and music close to his heart. As a young man, he joyfully sang in the choir at Trinity United Church in Newmarket. After relocating to Nova Scotia, he continued sharing his musical talent with the congregation of St. Paul’s United Church in Westville.
People will fondly remember Garry for his infectious laughter-you often heard him before you saw him! A natural conversationalist, he thrived on meeting new people and making them feel comfortable. His dedication to community service was clear through his active participation with groups like the Masons, Eastern Star, and Shriners.
Family meant everything to Garry. His nieces and nephews adored him as they enjoyed many adventurous “lion hunts” together. His grandchildren will treasure their memories of him reading The Wonky Donkey-those were moments filled with laughter and joy.
Garry is survived by his loving wife, Marianna; daughters Karina Hope of Salem, NS, and Laura (Marko) Peric of Montague, PE; along with his dear grandchildren Sean, Emma-Lyn, Nathaniel, and Levi. He also leaves behind his brother Maxwell (Karen) Hope from Newmarket, ON; brother- and sister-in-law Frank and Holly Wuite from Salem, NS; brother- and sister-in-law John and Judi Wuite from Edmonton, AB; plus numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary Jane Bekin (Barry) from Brampton, ON; brother John Hope (Gwen) from Fenelon Falls, ON; along with sister Fran Greig from Newmarket, ON.
The warmth of Garry’s laughter and kindness will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned at the Alma Fire Hall on Friday, October 17th, 2025 from 2-4pm.
