Elinor Margaret Ableson, from White Rock, BC, passed away on May 10, 2026 at the Melville Hospice in South Surrey, BC. She fought a brave battle against ovarian cancer and left this world surrounded by love. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Born on October 19, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Elinor was the third of four children to Carl and Helen Ableson. Growing up on the family farm in Korah County, she completed her high school education in Sault Ste. Marie before attending the Hamilton Civic Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1964. Starting her career as a registered nurse in southern Ontario, she moved to British Columbia in 1977 and worked in hospitals across the Lower Mainland. For the last 15 years of her career, she focused on palliative care at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC. She retired in 2007.

Elinor is survived by her sons Michael Peacosh (Jessica) and Andrew Peacosh (Leanne), along with her beloved grandchildren Violet, Ryleigh, and Nathan. She also leaves behind her siblings Shirley Infanti (Larry) from Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Norma Buchan (late Peter) from Winnipeg, MB; and Bill Ableson (Sharon) from Carleton Place, ON; plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her warmth and kindness will be missed by all.

Elinor enjoyed reading, weaving, doing puzzles, playing bridge and canasta as well as solitaire. Time spent with her healing group brought her joy too. An adventurous traveler at heart, she visited Machu Picchu twice and explored France and Sweden while taking several solo road trips across Canada and the United States that enriched her life with stories she loved to share.

She will be laid to rest at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Surrey, BC where her ashes will be lovingly scattered. A celebration of Elinor’s life is planned for July 25th, 2026 from 3 to 5pm in the common room of 1521 Blackwood St., White Rock BC.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who cared for Elinor during this time and offered support to them as well. They will always cherish her memory.
