UPDATED TO REFLECT NEW TIMES

Drivers heading through the western Greater Toronto Area towards Niagara should be prepared for traffic issues caused by various road and highway construction work in Burlington and Oakville.

As part of the ongoing Burlington Skyway repair project, two out of four lanes heading to Niagara on the QEW will be shut down from 10 p. m. Friday, May 29 until 6 a. m. Monday, June 1.

This closure will take place north of the Burlington Skyway Bridge, including the bridge itself, and is likely to cause major slowdowns for drivers going toward Hamilton, Stoney Creek, and the Niagara Region.

There are also additional ramp closures planned over the weekend. The Eastport Drive collector-lane ramp leading to the Niagara-bound bridge will be closed Friday from 10 p. m. to 5 a. m., and again Sunday from 8 p. m. to 5 a. m.

Transportation officials mentioned that all Northshore Boulevard interchange ramps will stay open, while Eastport Drive will continue to serve as an alternative route for those needing to re-enter the Niagara-bound QEW.

In another development, a different infrastructure project will fully close Burloak Drive starting just after midnight today (Friday).

Burloak Drive will be shut in both directions between Harvester Road/Wyecroft Road and Prince William Drive/Superior Court until 6 a. m. on Monday, June 1.

This closure is part of the Burloak Grade Separation Project aimed at bringing new rail tracks into service on a new rail bridge, relocating and paving a railway crossing on a temporary detour road, and installing storm sewer infrastructure.

Officials stated that access to businesses located at 700 to 728 Burloak Drive will still be available via Prince William Drive while emergency access remains open throughout the closure period.

The intersection at Prince William Drive and Superior Court will remain accessible although some turning restrictions may apply.

Signed detours will guide drivers around the area affected by closures.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect delays, and allow extra time for travel throughout this weekend and into next week.
