MARKHAM, Ont. – The council in Markham, Ont., voted 11-2 on Wednesday night against the idea of using public money to construct an NHL-sized arena.
This decision essentially ends a proposed financial agreement with Graham Roustan, the CEO of GTA Sports and Entertainment.
The initial plan involved Roustan’s company covering half of the $162.5 million cost for a 20,000-seat arena while the city would fund the other half.

Last week, Roustan presented another proposal where he would increase his financial contribution to around $200 million.
Council decided to look into that offer further.
