Two friends who became acquainted after moving from Europe to London, Ont., in the 1990s have just won the largest lottery payout in Canadian history.
Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) revealed on Thursday that Greg S. and Krys P., whose last names were not disclosed, have won a staggering $80,403,285.40 from the Lotto Max draw on December 30: the $80 million jackpot plus an additional $403,285.40 second prize for choosing the combination play option. This incredible win surpasses last year’s $80 million prize awarded in B. C.
“I saw the words Big Winner [on the OLG app] and the number 80 and I didn’t believe it at first,” Greg said in an interview released by OLG. “It was unbelievable. I checked it again and I saw the eight, the zeros and the commas, and I knew it was $80 million.”
The two met years ago while taking an English as a Second Language (ESL) class together, formed a friendship, and have been playing lottery tickets as a team for many years now, according to OLG. They only buy tickets when jackpots are substantial.
Krys mentioned he had just woken up when Greg’s wife called him with the big news.
“I went over to Greg’s to check the ticket together and shake his hand. He is the one who always took the time to go to the store and buy our tickets.”
Greg S. and Krys P. say they’re still overcome by the shock of suddenly having more than $80 million between them. (OLG)
The winning ticket was bought at Happy Day’s Mini Mart located on Aldersbrook Road in London.

What’ll they do with their winnings?
This windfall arrives after both men dedicated 28 years of hard work: Greg never missed a day at his manufacturing job while Krys puts in long hours working 12-hour shifts at a factory. Greg mentioned that it’ll take some time for them to figure out what comes next. “It’s surreal. I’ve been playing for years, but you never expect something like this to happen,” he stated, adding that he has already consulted with a financial adviser for guidance on investing wisely for his future. For now, Krys said he intends to buy a new car and home while dreaming about traveling to tropical locations. “I worked hard for my life in Canada,” said Krys. “Now I can spend more time traveling and being with my kids. I’m still shocked – I’ve never seen money like this in my life.”Source link
