Parts of the Greater Toronto Area should be on alert for potentially dangerous snow conditions on Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
The weather agency has issued a snow squall warning for Newmarket, Georgina, and Northern York, predicting total snowfall amounts between 10 to 20 centimetres.
The snow is expected to continue into the afternoon, with most accumulation “along and north of a line from Newmarket to Uxbridge to Port Perry.”
This snowfall will be accompanied by northwesterly winds gusting between 50 to 60 km/h.
“As a result, blowing snow will further reduce visibility. Conditions are expected to improve this evening,” the warning reads.
“Travel will likely be hazardous. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.”
Environment Canada mentions there is “uncertainty” regarding the exact location of any developing snow squalls, and accumulations “may be quite variable across the region.”
A special weather statement is also active for Vaughan.
While accumulation levels are lower at five centimetres, forecasters caution that heavy snowfall could lead to reduced visibility, making roads and walkways tough to navigate.
