Kitchener Market will be welcoming shoppers and visitors on Saturday with an outdoor market setup.
The city announced Thursday that they’re creating a temporary outdoor market in the Breezeway featuring well-known local farmers, makers, and vendors.
“We are grateful for the resilience of our vendor community and for the patience, understanding and encouragement shown by residents over the past several days,” the city said in its statement.
“We encourage residents to come out, shop local and show their support for the farmers, makers and entrepreneurs who help make the Kitchener Market such a special place.”
The market was closed on Tuesday after a fire occurred last weekend causing about $50,000 in damages. The indoor market and food court will stay shut, but the city mentioned they’re working on reopening that part of the market soon.
The city stated that a complete list of participating vendors will be shared once it’s finalized.

Poor air quality expected throughout the weekend
Due to poor air quality this week, some outdoor events in Waterloo region have been canceled. On Friday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada extended its orange-level air quality warning for Waterloo region, Guelph, and nearby areas through the weekend. The smoky conditions are being caused by raging wildfires in northwestern Ontario. These fires have led to evacuations, road closures, extended air quality alerts, event cancellations, and other challenges for communities in that part of the province. As of Friday, Ontario’s Air Quality Health Index rated Kitchener, Guelph and Brantford’s air quality at a 10+, which is viewed as very high risk.
