A former pilot for Air Canada has been charged in a complicated fraud and forgery case, according to police on Tuesday. They claim he used a fake license to operate hundreds of flights throughout his extensive career based at Canada’s busiest airport.
Police allege that 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall was elevated to captain without having the necessary license in 2009 and went on to fly over 900 flights-including some of the airline’s largest aircraft-until he retired in 2025.
The alleged wrongdoing apparently went unnoticed until a standard check at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport in March 2025 revealed “anomalies” in his paperwork, according to law enforcement.
“This is similar to a doctor that is licensed to practise family medicine but is doing brain surgery in their office,” said Nick Milinovich, deputy chief of Peel Region police.
Wall began working with Air Canada in 1998 as a first officer before becoming captain in 2009. The native of Barrie, Ont., also held a prominent role as an executive with the Air Canada pilots’ union, serving as chair of the master executive council.

According to police reports, he was stationed at Pearson airport and piloted Boeing 767s, 777s and 787s.
He held a commercial pilot’s license but did not possess the highest certification needed for captain duties. Allegedly, he used fraudulent documents to misrepresent his qualifications both to the airline and aviation authorities.
When confronted about it, police say he falsely claimed that his documents had been stolen.
The criminal inquiry started earlier this year after Transport Canada conducted a separate regulatory review.
In an official statement, Air Canada mentioned that once they became aware of the situation, they removed Wall from duty and reported it voluntarily to Transport Canada.
The airline emphasized that safety was “not compromised by this incident,” highlighting that pilots undergo mandatory training every six months to ensure their flying skills remain sharp. This training includes an annual flight check with a Transport Canada pilot.
“However, appropriate licensing is an essential layer of the airline industry’s multi-layered approach to safety so Air Canada takes this matter with utmost seriousness,” stated the company spokesperson.
An audit found no other cases of non-compliance among its pilots after thorough checks were conducted by the airline.

Transport Minister Steve Mac Kinnon indicated that the federal government would review this situation and ensure improvements would be made if necessary. He noted that despite how long this alleged fraud continued undetected; it showed that systems intended for detection were effective.
‘I am gratified that we were able to detect this issue and get it dealt with,’ he told reporters on Parliament Hill.
The pilots’ union chose not comment specifically regarding Wall’s case.
‘We take all regulatory and licensing requirements seriously and work hard maintain high standards for safety and professionalism across our industry,’ said the Air Line Pilots Association in their statement.
After leaving Air Canada behind him upon retirement; Wall took up work at Georgian College where he assisted students connected with military backgrounds transition into college life-a role referenced in material dated November 2025 posted online by the college itself.
Georgian College confirmed awareness of charges against one “part-time employee,” but declined further comments about either Wall’s arrest or current employment status within their institution.
