Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into a crash that happened in Etobicoke early Saturday morning, according to Toronto police.

Officers were called to a two-vehicle accident shortly after midnight near Carlingview Drive and Disco Road, as stated by Toronto police on social media platform X.

Three individuals from one of the vehicles were taken into custody, but police did not share any further information about the reasons for their arrests.

Toronto paramedics reported transporting five people with injuries: three were sent to a trauma center in serious but non-life-threatening condition, while two others went to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Const. Shannon Eames from Toronto police mentioned that the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has started its investigation into the incident. She confirmed that no police vehicles were part of the crash and that no officers sustained injuries during the event.

A news release from Saturday indicated that the collision involved a vehicle that had evaded Toronto police officers.

The SIU explained that officers tried to stop an Acura driver in the vicinity of Carlingview Drive and Disco Road.

The Acura sped away and then crashed into a Ford Escape, according to the SIU’s announcement. The three people inside the Acura – two teenage boys and an 18-year-old man – reportedly fled on foot.

The trio was arrested shortly afterward. The police watchdog stated they did not suffer serious injuries.

The SIU also confirmed that those in the Ford Escape were taken to a Toronto hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to the SIU.
