One person has died and multiple others have been injured following a “head-on collision” involving two vehicles in Hamilton, according to Ontario Provincial Police on Saturday.

Emergency services arrived at the scene around 6:45 a. m. Saturday. There were two people in one car and five in the other, said OPP in a news release.

The passenger in the first vehicle was declared dead at the scene, police reported. The remaining occupants from both vehicles were taken to the hospital for “undetermined injuries,” with one individual being transported by Air Ornge.

As of 10:10 a. m., Highway 8 is closed between Safari Road and Studiman Road, stated the OPP.

Motorists are advised to check OPP social media accounts for updates, as roads are expected to remain closed for “several hours.”

Anyone who has information or dashcam footage is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
