Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into a crash that occurred in Simcoe, Ont., on Wednesday, leaving a 77-year-old woman in serious condition and an Ontario Provincial Police officer hurt.

The accident took place around 1:30 p. m. at the intersection of Norfolk Street North and Riverside Road, according to provincial police and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The SIU reports that the officer was responding to a call and was heading south on Norfolk Street when they collided with a Honda CRV at the intersection.

The driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old woman, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, as stated by the SIU. She was taken to a local hospital but was later airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital’s trauma center.

The officer suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The SIU has assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to look into this case. Witnesses of the incident are encouraged to reach out by calling 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu. on. ca/en/appeals. php.
