Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into a crash that occurred in Simcoe, Ont., on Wednesday, leaving a 77-year-old woman in serious condition and an Ontario Provincial Police officer hurt.
The accident took place around 1:30 p. m. at the intersection of Norfolk Street North and Riverside Road, according to provincial police and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
The SIU reports that the officer was responding to a call and was heading south on Norfolk Street when they collided with a Honda CRV at the intersection.
The driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old woman, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, as stated by the SIU. She was taken to a local hospital but was later airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital’s trauma center.
The officer suffered minor injuries, according to police.
