Ontario’s police oversight agency is looking into an incident where a 23-year-old man was shot multiple times by officers during a traffic stop in Burlington.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports that the police were carrying out a traffic stop in the parking lot of Crestwood Motel around 12:30 a. m. on Sunday.

Officials stated that the male driver was shot several times after he allegedly drove toward the officers.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the man to a hospital in Hamilton, where he is currently stable.

A woman who was sitting in the passenger seat was reported to be unharmed, according to authorities.

The SIU has launched seven investigations, which include two forensic specialists and an additional collision reconstructionist working on this case.

The SIU operates independently as a government agency investigating police conduct that may have led to death, serious injury, sexual assault, or firearm discharge at a person.
