Whitby Break-In Leads to Arrest of Chilean Man

Authorities have apprehended a man from Chile and are on the lookout for another suspect following a break-in at a house in an Ontario town.

The incident took place around 7:30 p. m. on Thursday when the homeowners were coming back to their home located near Thickson Road and Carnwith Drive East in Whitby, according to Durham Regional Police.

Upon returning, the residents found two masked individuals at their back door.

Both men fled before law enforcement arrived; however, one suspect was captured nearby with help from a police helicopter and the K9 unit.

Police state that Nelson Perez-Rojas, 24, from Chile, has been arrested and faces multiple charges including break-and-enter, theft under $5,000 and mischief.

The suspect is being held pending a bail hearing, as per police reports.

The second suspect is described as a male wearing a baseball cap along with dark clothing.
