People living in the Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara areas should get ready for some closures like banks and Canada Post for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Wednesday is a federal holiday across Canada, but not recognized as a provincial holiday in Ontario. This means only certain services will be impacted.
GO Transit and transit services in all three regions will run on their regular weekday schedule.
Hamilton
Federal offices in Hamilton will be closed. However, most city services, including city hall, will stay open.
Most businesses such as grocery stores, shops, and restaurants will be operating as normal.
Both Beer Store and LCBO locations will remain open, but it’s best to call ahead since hours may vary.
This Wednesday at 7 a. m., the city will hold a Sunrise Ceremony at the West Harbour James Street Plaza to commemorate this day.
A morning gathering is also planned from 10 a. m. to 12 p. m.
Additonally at 2 p. m., there’s a community-organized gathering set to take place at Hamilton’s Gore Park near where the Sir John A. Macdonald statue once stood.

Halton
This Wednesday, Oakville Town Hall, the Oakville Transit office, all branches of the Oakville Public Library, and cemetery offices will be closed. All public library branches in Milton will also close.
The Oakville Museum, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, community centres, indoor pools, arenas, seniors’ centres and harbour offices will stay open as usual.
Milton Town Hall along with recreation centres will operate normally.
The Beer Store and LCBO are both open in Halton Region but check with LCBO locations for possible reduced hours.
In Oakville, residents can stop by to see the town’s first orange crosswalk located at Thomas and Church streets.
In Halton Region, ahead of Wednesday’s observance , the survivors’ flag is raised beforehand then lowered to half-mast on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honor victims and survivors of residential schools.

Niagara
A few city-run services including some town halls, administrative offices, libraries and community centres may be closed on this day.
The libraries in Port Colborne are also going to be closed.
A flag raising event is scheduled at Civic Square in Welland at 10 a. m., coinciding with another one happening simultaneously at Niagara Falls city hall.
Attractions in Niagara Falls like restaurants and tourism spots are expected to continue operations as usual.
Please remember that it’s wise to call ahead regarding individual hours since they might differ from place to place.
The Town Administration Building along with Operations Building in Niagara-on-the-Lake plus its Community Centre and Public Library will be closed too.
