Catherine Elaine Murray, age 75, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine was born on September 9, 1950, in Fort William, Ontario, to Brian and Doris Sabbe. She grew up on Brock Street with a big and lively extended family that included the fun-loving Parson boys. Their adventures created many cherished memories from her childhood.
Catherine had a fulfilling career built on dedication and connection with others. She started as Assistant to Director Jim Mc Cuaig at the Lakehead Public School Board and later became Director of Media Relations at Confederation College. She was known for her professionalism and warmth that made everyone feel welcomed.
Above all else, Catherine loved her family and friends deeply. Whether at home or out enjoying life in Florida or on a cruise ship, she always opened her door wide. Her gatherings were filled with laughter, music, dancing, and kindness. Catherine had an incredible ability to light up any room and make people feel included. She truly loved being around others and lived each day full of joy and compassion.
Catherine is survived by her beloved husband Roy Murray; her daughters Jennifer (Patrick) and Kathleen (David); along with her adored grandchildren Preston, Lily, Alex, and Calvin. She’s also fondly remembered by her stepchildren Elizabeth and Stephen; step-grandchildren Christopher (Ayla) and Kathleen (Jordon); as well as her step-great-grandchildren.
She will be missed dearly by her sisters Lynne (Randy) and Patricia; brothers-in-law Gerald (Marilyn), Jimmy, Roland (Wanda), Ron; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Special friendships with Laraine, Marga, Edith, and Tom brought Catherine much happiness throughout her life.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents Brian and Doris; brothers Terrance and Niall; brother-in-law Philip; sister-in-law Wanda.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Catherine’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Cancer Centre.
Catherine – Mom, Mor Mor, Auntie – will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
