A well-known Greek retailer is preparing to launch its first store in Canada, with a big new outlet set to open soon in Toronto at an Ontario mall.
JUMBO, a top multi-category retailer from Greece, will be opening its inaugural Canadian location at Vaughan Mills. Shoppers can look forward to a wide variety of toys, seasonal items, baby products, and home essentials in the Greater Toronto Area.
The Vaughan Mills website indicates that this new store will be situated right beside Home Sense, close to entrance 3 and Pro Hockey Life. The large shop will cover about 110,000 square feet of retail space and is taking over the site of the former Toys “R” Us store that closed earlier this year.
This marks JUMBO’s entry into Canada as part of their strategy to expand nationwide, aiming for five to ten stores within the first three years of operations in Canada.
Starting as a toy-focused business back in 1986, JUMBO has grown significantly and now operates numerous stores across Europe-53 in Greece alone-as well as 20 in Romania, 10 in Bulgaria, and six in Cyprus. The brand has also expanded through franchises into other southeastern European countries like Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia.
The company has seen consistent growth too; they reported record group sales of €1.233 billion ($1.9 billion CAD) for 2025-a rise of just over seven percent compared to the previous year.
JUMBO’s move into Canada coincides with the decline of Toys “R” Us’ presence nationwide. The toy chain entered creditor protection back in February due to debts totaling at least $120 million owed to vendors and landlords. Since then, an Ontario court has approved plans for splitting up and selling Toys “R” Us Canada’s assets among three buyers.
One agreement involves transferring the lease for the Toys “R” Us spot at Vaughan Mills over to Fox Group Jumbo Canada. In total, the retailer has shuttered 53 stores across Canada over the past two years-leaving only a few locations open including one in Etobicoke.
While there’s no confirmed opening date yet for JUMBO’s new store at Vaughan Mills, the mall does state that this large outlet is “coming soon.”
