Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for regions west of Ottawa including Bancroft, Kaladar, and Pembroke on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

This may bring strong winds along with the possibility of a tornado, according to forecasters.

Other dangers include hail and lightning.

The watch is marked in yellow, which is the lowest level on Environment Canada’s three-tier scale. If the risk for tornadoes increases, a tornado watch or warning could be issued.

A large part of western Quebec is also under a severe thunderstorm watch due to storms moving from the Sudbury area that are expected to produce strong winds and heavy rain. This alert does not mention any tornado risk and does not apply to Gatineau or Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.

No alerts have been issued for Ottawa, Kingston, or Cornwall at this time.

Tuesday is significantly hotter than usual across much of eastern Ontario, with temperatures in Ottawa reaching 28 C but feeling like 34 C due to humidity as of 1 p. m.

The previous daily heat record for May 19 stands at 30.6 C.

Temperatures are anticipated to return closer to normal on Tuesday night and might even drop below average in northern areas later on.
