Police have charged a couple with attempted murder following a serious stabbing incident that prompted a shelter-in-place order in an Ottawa Valley town.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two individuals related to the event that occurred on September 9 in Deep River, Ont. This led to over 12 hours of residents staying indoors and disruptions for local businesses until the order was lifted.
For several days after, law enforcement continued searching for the suspect(s), as rumors circulated throughout the town and online, prompting officials to respond.
Authorities received tips from the public about someone dressed in construction attire seen near the scene during the time of the incident. In their statement, they clarified that this individual was not connected to the assault.
“Police are providing this clarification to address information that has circulated publicly and to help ensure investigative efforts remain focused on relevant information,” it notes.
Haedyn Fry, 26, and Sharon Druery, 69, both from Deep River, are facing charges linked to a stabbing that left one person hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Fry is charged with attempted murder and failing to comply with probation conditions. Druery is set to appear in Pembroke court facing charges of obstructing a police officer.
Investigators mentioned that there will still be an increased police presence in the area as they continue their investigation.
