Just south of the Grand River on Highway 6, Ontario Provincial Police were seen searching through the tree-line after a body was found in the area.

OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk stated that the remains were located around 6 p. m. Thursday evening and are thought to be linked to an ongoing homicide investigation in Simcoe.

Earlier this month, the body of 71-year-old Barbara Morgan was discovered in her home on Head Street South.

Since then, there’s been growing concern for Barbara’s downstairs tenant, Robert Sykes, who is still missing. Authorities believe he might be a second victim.

On Oct. 10, Barbara’s son, 45-year-old Justin Morgan, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder related to his mother’s death.

Police have not confirmed if the remains found in Caledonia belong to Robert Sykes. The Ontario Forensic Pathology Service will perform a postmortem examination to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

The OPP is asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.

If you were in the area on Oct. 5 between 10:30 p. m. and midnight and noticed anything suspicious, please contact police as even small details might be crucial.

Drivers with dashcams are encouraged to review their footage and reach out to Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 if they have any useful information for investigators.

Residents can expect an increased police presence as this investigation continues.

If someone has a tip but wants to stay anonymous, they can reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
