TORONTO – The remains of an Ontario police officer who passed away in a highway accident east of Toronto this week will be transported to Oshawa this afternoon before his funeral.

Sgt. Brandon Malcolm lost his life while on duty on Monday after a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg.

The Ontario Provincial Police shared in a news release that the procession will leave the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto and travel east along Highway 401 to Oshawa.

It mentions that those wishing to express their support can gather at one of the highway’s overpasses or sign an online book of condolence.

Authorities state that funeral plans for the 33-year-old Malcolm are still being finalized.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique mentioned Monday night that Malcolm joined the OPP in 2020 and was also part of the force’s precision motorcycle team, known as the Golden Helmets.

This report by The Canadian Press was first April 30, 2026.
