OPP Update – Image Kevin Palmer / Palmer Creative Group SHUNIAH – A 46-year-old man from Thunder Bay has lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 11-17, close to Spruce River Road, just east of Thunder Bay.
OPP Reports Involvement of Pickup Truck in Early-Morning Incident
The Ontario Provincial Police state that officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment, along with emergency responders, arrived at around 1:50 a. m. on Sunday, April 19, 2026, following reports of a crash involving a pickup truck in Shuniah. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was later pronounced dead.The police have not yet released his name.
Highway Reopened After Investigation Concludes
Multiple lanes on Highway 11-17 were shut down between Spruce River Road and Terry Fox Lookout Road while OPP officers, including those from Technical Collision Investigation and Reconstruction team members, assessed the scene. All lanes have since been reopened.Impact on Local Traffic
