TORONTO – The Ontario government has issued four Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) to facilitate the construction of over 6,800 new homes in a transit-oriented community (TOC) close to the Oakville GO station.

This development is expected to create nearly 4,000 jobs during the building phase and support about 400 new permanent jobs in Midtown Oakville, according to a recent release.

The Oakville TOC aims to align with the town’s long-term growth strategy and is part of its goal to provide 33,000 new homes by 2031. The project will also feature parks, public spaces, bike paths, and a daycare.

“In response to feedback received from the town and the community, Ontario is working with the municipality and impacted partners on further refinements to the Oakville TOC that will result in building heights of 38 storeys, while maintaining the overall number of homes and community benefits,” the release continues.

Since 2024, the province has invested more than $44 million in Oakville for housing-enabling and community infrastructure projects through initiatives like the Building Faster Fund and the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.

This funding includes upgrades for expanding the Oakville Water Treatment Plant and increasing water production capacity, which will allow for the construction of 25,000 additional homes.
