The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) and Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) are teaming up to restore the coastal wetlands at Lynde Shores Conservation Area in Whitby.
The aim is to improve wetland habitats, boost climate resilience in the region, and create more chances for the community to enjoy being near the water.
According to DUC, this project is made possible through a 1.5-million dollar investment from Ontario’s Wetlands Conservation Partner Program.
“Successful partnerships are essential to building a more resilient Ontario – for nature and future generations,” says Marie-Paule Godin, Manager of Provincial Operations for DUC in Ontario. “This funding represents an investment in the well-being of our communities and the health of our landscapes, including important habitats for migrating waterfowl. We look forward to continuing the work with CLOCA and local partners to deliver impactful conservation on the ground.”
There will be an additional twenty-three acres (9.4 hectares) of wetland added to Lynde Shores Conservation Area. The funding will also aid in completing the Westside Creek Wetland Restoration and Resilience Project in Clarington.
The project is set to be finished before the end of 2026.
