Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu passed through Canadian airspace on Thursday, despite having an international arrest warrant against him.
Flight tracking information indicates that Netanyahu’s journey took him over Greece, Italy, France, and Canada as he made his way to speak at the UN in New York.
Myah Tomasi, a spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, mentioned that any permission to use Canadian airspace should not be seen as a support of any specific government’s policies or actions.
She explained that the request for overflight was related to the United Nations General Assembly, which she referred to as an important platform for diplomatic discussions.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu due to alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
In October 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the Israeli leader would be arrested if he entered Canada.
