Rajendranauth Doodnauth Maraj Photo: Durham Regional Police A Hindu priest has been taken into custody after misusing his role and committing sexual assault during a religious ceremony in Oshawa, Ontario, according to an announcement from the Durham Regional Police on Wednesday. On Tuesday, August 25, officers from the East Division responded to a report of sexual assault near Harmony Road North and Conlin Road East. The victim and her family had hired a Hindu pandit from the United States to come perform a religious ritual for them. The priest manipulated the victim into thinking she was possessed by evil spirits and required a specific ceremony to heal. He took advantage of this situation by inviting her to a private place where he sexually assaulted her while pretending to conduct a religious service. Law enforcement was later informed, and the suspect was arrested without any issues. Authorities are concerned there could be more victims.
