Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a car struck several pedestrians on a busy street in London before fleeing the scene.
Five individuals sustained injuries, with three requiring hospitalization, during the incident that took place in Ealing Broadway, west London, around 2.30pm on Saturday.
Initial investigations were carried out by counter-terrorism policing London, but the event is not being classified as terrorism.
A British man born in Somalia was taken into custody on charges of dangerous driving and attempted murder, according to the Metropolitan police.
He was apprehended in Grange Park shortly afterward, as reported by authorities.
Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening or resulted in lasting damage. The two people who didn’t go to the hospital received care at the scene.
Video footage circulating online claimed to show bystanders chasing a white car, kicking it, and trying to open the driver’s side door just before it accelerated away.
The police stated: “Due to the nature of the incident, local officers were in contact with officers from counter-terrorism policing London as they conducted their initial inquiries.
“While investigators are keeping an open mind as to any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
“Road closures are in place in the area and could remain in place for some time while the police investigation progresses.”
